MCSO's Sub-Divisions

The Sheriff’s Office maintains several specialized divisions designed to address critical operational needs and leverage advanced competencies. Deputies who have satisfied established tenure requirements and consistently demonstrated excellence in standard patrol functions may be considered for assignment to these units through a formal application process.

  1. Traffic Enforcement: The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is dedicated to enhancing roadway safety through strategic enforcement initiatives, public education, and specialized operational deployments. The unit focuses on improving traffic safety by addressing hazardous behaviors such as aggressive driving, excessive speed, impaired and distracted driving, and pursuit intervention through targeted, data-driven patrols and enforcement operations. Specialized components, including the Motorcycle Unit and DUI Enforcement Team, also conduct traffic collision investigations and lead impaired-driving enforcement efforts, all with the goal of reducing crashes and promoting safer driving practices throughout the county.

  2. Canine Unit: The Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit pairs specially selected deputies with extensively trained law enforcement canines to support a wide range of operational missions, including scent tracking, narcotics and explosives detection, suspect apprehension, and missing person searches. Each team undergoes continuous, advanced training to ensure operational readiness, effectiveness, and reliability in dynamic field conditions.

K-9 teams frequently support high-risk operations, including tactical and SWAT deployments, where they provide enhanced officer safety and operational capability. In addition to enforcement responsibilities, the unit actively engages in community outreach efforts, demonstrating its capabilities and fostering transparency, confidence, and trust between the Sheriff’s Office and the community it serves.

  3. Warrant Services: The Sheriff’s Office Warrant Services Unit is responsible for the safe, lawful, and efficient execution of arrest and bench warrants throughout the county. Deputies assigned to this unit conduct thorough investigative follow-ups, locate wanted individuals, and carry out warrant service operations with a strong emphasis on officer safety, constitutional standards, and professionalism.

The unit frequently coordinates with patrol, investigations, and specialized teams to apprehend high-risk or repeat offenders and to support larger enforcement operations. Through diligent planning, intelligence gathering, and controlled execution, the Warrant Services Unit plays a critical role in ensuring judicial orders are enforced and that offenders are held accountable while minimizing risk to the public and deputies alike.
